Students get acquainted with both the field of business ethics and the reflection on economics in theological ethics. These general frameworks overlay a more finely grained consideration of business activities within the everyday and exceptional practices of corporations and other institutions – the corporate culture. Additionally, the small business person is relatively autonomous in his or her decision making; he or she does not have to answer to a large employee base or a corporate governing board.
I would also posit that it is beneficial to ensuring the consideration of ethics: a business that seeks to make repeated sales, over time, can generally be counted on to treat its customers better than a fly-by-night operation. Business organizations generate revenue, and some of this revenue is distributed to their employees in the form of pay. EDC recognises the evolutionary nature of corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices, and actively monitors the international discussion of human rights issues. Through graduate and undergraduate classes, and through its activities and programs, the Center provokes thought and discussion of business ethics.
Part of business ethics is responsibility to the investor and for that reason companies with strong reputations in the field of ethical business behavior are also companies that tend to attract more investment from people that are new into the market. It will also look at the normative nature of ethical theories, how business ethics has evolved and prescriptions from theoretical frameworks as to how business should be managed. Evolution and Ethics examines the burning questions of human morality from the standpoint of Christian thought and contemporary biology, asking where the two perspectives diverge and where they may complement one another.
